#offline – 3 Days of Instagram Detox

DE:

EN:

3 days without any use of Instagram. What might not be worth mentioning for some people is something not commonplace for me as a blogger. For that reason, today I want to let you know about my motivations and tell you about my experiences during that time.

Why DID I DECIDE TO DO AN instagram detox for 3 days?

To be honest, I can not even summarize it in one sentence. Over the past few months, I have had the feeling more and more that my thoughts are only about the app and my next postings. I did not feel much pressure from the outside; but my own inner voice in my head was busy talking with something like an emotional whip in the hand. In addition to that, there were challenges that life brought to me, beyond the displays of laptop and smartphone. The gossip factory with it’s constantly changing Instagram algorithm myths within the community, kept me away from peace. I felt restless, tired and sometimes – even sick. Thus, my intent was: After the Giorgio Armani event in the Apropos Concept Store in Cologne … I will stop all activity. Until Tuesday morning.

How did this time period feel to me?

DID I LOOSE REACH, LIKE and followers during the break?

Yes, but not so many worth mentioning. Of course, I also knew from the beginning that it was likely to happen. Nevertheless it was really very limited and I believe that within the first 3 days, in which I am now using Instagram again actively, the small loss will be compensated by itself.

whERE THERE ANY SUPRISING MOMENTS OR MOMENTS OF AHA?

Yes, there where some. Not during my offline time but afterwards. Already in the first few minutes after I logged in again, and scrolled through my feed, my mood shifted. For the first time, I’ve been consciously noticing how much I compare myself and my content to what other accounts post. Although this is absolute nonsense because every person and every life is different … but nevertheless, a certain melancholy soon became noticeable in me. The flow that I had previously felt, began to feel thicker, again.

WHAT CONCLUSION DO I DRAW FROM MY INSTAGRAM DETOX?

1. That 3 days without the app are absolutely no drama ,but during this time, I missed Instagram, as maybe the sun on rainy days.2. That my feelings, which were the reason for my Instagram break, were not caused by the platform itself, but the result of how I deal with what I see on my phone’s screen.3. It felt good to take this break. And yes, I would do it again. If you’ve already thought about it, too: Do it!

So… WHAT’S next?

From now on, I’ll be watching my own thoughts while discovering new accounts and scrolling through my feed. We all know that postings on Instagram do not always correspond to a beautiful, light and happy reality and that there is often a certain amount of stress behind one or the other „snapshot“. With a slightly more distant mindset than before, I will actively share all the inspiring, touching and fascinating things that with you, now again.
